Gods?
In ancient times, the earthly judges in Israel were called gods or sons of God. Mainly because they should bestow justice on God’s people; the judges were meant to represent God. They were not called gods because the earthly judges were deities but because their duties should reflect God. However, the earthly judges failed to bestow justice. By quoting Psalm 82, the Lord took a swipe at the religious leaders of the time and explained why the people should not take offense when He said that He is equal with His Father.
