We return to our main series on the Gospel According to John.
The Lord Jesus prepared His disciples for His departure by warning them of the difficulties that would happen to them: there would be persecution. Moreover, those who would persecute them would think they were doing it for God (John 16:1-4). He explained the necessity of His departure. If the Lord leaves, the Holy Spirit will come. If He did not, the Holy Spirit would not. However, the departure was not ordinary. The Lord Jesus Christ would suffer, die, and rise from the dead. Then ascend back to the Father.
